How hyperbaric oxygen therapy works
During the time a person is in a tube, pressurized room, or hyperbaric oxygen chamber, the air pressure is increased to three times higher than it is through normal air pressure. This allows the lungs to amass more oxygen than breathing pure oxygen through normal air pressure. The extra oxygen gathered is then circulated by the blood throughout the body, helping to fight bacteria, as well as stimulating growth factors, and stem cells that promote healing.

Risks are rare
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy complications are rare and it is considered as a safe procedure. The potential risks as described by the Mayo Clinic, are temporary myopia, middle ear injuries from increased air pressure, lung collapse from air pressure change, or seizures resulting from too much oxygen.
